Abstract

This study aims to examine the construction and development of the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum in response to the demands of changing times. This research employs a qualitative method with a literature study approach. The data were obtained from various regulations, books, and academic journals. A qualitative approach was chosen to identify curriculum development innovations that can improve the quality of madrasahs in facing contemporary challenges, as educational institutions with a distinctive Islamic character. There are several constructions and models that can be applied in innovating the PAI curriculum. The results of the literature review indicate that the construction of the PAI curriculum still predominantly emphasizes a Subject-Centered Design, which focuses on separate subjects. The most dominant determining factors are teachers and educational facilities and infrastructure. The curriculum construction model emphasizes the essence and depth of the material; therefore, the Madrasah Collaborative Curriculum is considered an ideal innovation for the PAI curriculum to be implemented in the millennial era, utilizing an integrated learning approach across PAI subjects.
